The Shower Niche – Get One If You Can

Believe me when I tell you if you do not have a shower niche you should definitely get one. That is easier for me to write but it’s the truth. The shower niche or shower recess whatever you want to call it is incredibly practical and is awesome for small showers or small bathrooms.

Who has not banged their head or elbow on a shower soap dish or corner shelf? If you haven’t, consider yourself very fortunate. Haircare products, soaps, gels, and more need all a place in the shower so the shower niche can be king not to get your head smacked into.

The location of a shower niche is space and use-dependent. Shower niches can reduce clutter while adding a new feel and dimension to your shower space.

So once you have decided you are having the niche the next step is to decide whether or not you want it to be the feature of the room. Often the shower is the first thing you see when you look into a room so the box will often draw your eyes to it.

Below we will show you bathroom renovations we have done in Perth, Western Australia that use the box in different ways, some other really cool examples, and finally, at the end, we will show the man to help if you are doing it yourself.

Keep It The Same

If you want a shower niche but do not want to make it a feature the key is to tile it all in the same tapware as well as keep the trim/miters all blending in to make it more subtle.

 Feature In The Floor

One way to do this is to feature the floor tile in the box. This is often tiles as the floor tile in the feature wall which just so happens to have the shower niche on it creating a two for on in features.

Why You Do Not Want A Shower Niche

The Feature Of The Room

Why not make it a feature of the room? Some will say it will be filled with Shampoo and bottles so it will get lost but they are haters! I love making it a feature as it really adds to a modern bathroom’s wow factor.

Shower Niche - The Block

Maybe you want to add a marble inset into the shower recess. This is traditionally completed in more Hampton or classic-style bathroom renovations and is not the cheapest.
