Are wet rooms a good idea is something we often get asked. I honestly think wet rooms are a great idea as they both allow you to have a big room and the feeling of a big room. If you are deciding whether a wet room is a good idea you need to ask yourself why you are renovating.
If you are renovating to make your bathroom more practical look at what you exactly need. For example, the advice I give clients who want storage and they have a bath they don’t need is to get rid of the bath. If you have a bathroom where the shower is cramped then the wet room is for you.
What is the point of a wet room?
This leads us to what is the point of a wet room?. So the point of the wet room based on the wet room renovations I have completed is this. A bigger room is the point. Whether your bathroom looks bigger is the shower is bigger the wet room creates a bigger room. How does it do this? Well, it does this by moving the vanity to the entrance instantly creating a feeling of space like the example below. The second aspect of the wet room and the biggest point of the space is that it turns a 900mm x 900mm on average shower into a 1700mm x 1800mm size shower on average. We are talking almost double the size.
Do wet rooms get everything wet?
Do wet rooms get everything wet? The part of this renovation I will stress to you is yes everything in the wet room gets wet but the dry room of the space will not. Often the vanity section is the dry room but it also might contain a toilet in the larger spaces. This dry section will often stay dry unless your wet body stands out if it. Everything in the wet room area such as the bath and toilet will get wet, how much it gets wet will depend really on how it is put together by your bathroom renovator and how good they are doing it.
Is a wet room worth the added cost?
Are wet rooms worth the added cost? This is all down to the person renovating it and the person buying it. My advice and this is just advice more people will be in love with a freestanding bath in a wet room than a small bricked bath in a traditional family space. A freestanding bath and less glass to clean with a fixed panel screen is a selling point and actual luxury which will add value to the desirability of selling the home. People remember and want this.
Is a wet room bathroom expensive?
The biggest cost in wet rooms really are items like the freestanding bath so asking if a wet room bathroom expensive comes down to the person doing the labour. In Australia wet room bathroom renovations are on the trend so the cost comes down as more people understand how to do them. In places like the UK and USA which it is not as common or more complicated due to multiple stories or cold whether it can be more expensive or they flat out avoid it all together.
What size should a wet room be?
There are a lot of interruptions of a wet room I will focus more on a traditional Australian wet room which is vanity, screen and bath. When it comes to the all on the same wall wet room I call it, where all your items are located on one wall the minimum size you need for this wet room is ideally 2500mm Long (Vanity Wall) x 1550mm (Often Window Wall).
