For the last few years, there has been a big trend towards grout less bathroom renovations . I hear it almost 5 times a week but honestly, I am not always the biggest fan. Venetian Plastering Bathrooms also known as tadelakt or microcement bathrooms are that gift you have been waiting for.
Often though it is has been because I think some versions of a groutless bathrooms can be ultra tacky in appearance with plastic sheeting not always doing the bathroom justice.

This is where Venetian Plastering bathrooms come in with a with wow factor that you could not get before.
I used to call it Concrete looking plaster (not to technical) but the actual name for this style of bathroom plastering is called “Tadelakt”.

Tadelakt Bathroom Plastering is a technique that’s been used for centuries in Morocco and though it looks just like traditional Venetian plaster or limewash, it’s different in that it’s actually waterproof, water-repellent and mold/mildew-resistant, making it ideal for bathrooms and why it is a great alternative to tiles.
How Venetian Plastering Works?
Plasters like Venetian is a two- or three-coat process, tadelakt requires six to seven coats with the addition of burnishing and—what makes it truly magic—an application of an oil-based soap. Evidently, that soap that’s rubbed onto the surface reacts with the lime in the plaster to form something called calcium stearate which is insoluble (i.e. impenetrable).

I love tadelakt, but it is significantly more costly than other types of plaster due to how labor-intensive it is, so I really have only spend this for use in bathrooms where its waterproof qualities earn its keep.

Not only does tadelakt look fabulous, it eliminates the need for grout, and is naturally mould and mildew-resistant, which makes cleaning an absolute breeze.
In fact, harsh chemicals like bleach can destroy the finish, so opt for natural cleaning solutions or soapy water instead.

Tadelakt can be tinted to just about any colour imaginable but neutral tones create the most authentic finish, in our eyes. For contrast, add brass accessories that offer a metallic sparkle to an otherwise neutral palette.
