If you have come to this post you are either contemplating installing a toilet in your shower area or you are just baffled by the idea of someone placing a stand-alone toilet in a shower space.

Obviously, these are some pretty simple pros and cons as they are all very obvious but one must always do their research.

Planning is 90 percent of bathroom renovations my dad would say and it is the most important advice for renovating I can give you.

Unquestionably the number issue with a smaller bathroom is the cramped feeling of the shower and the lack of storage.

So below is an easy example of a cramped swinging door shower becoming open. This is less glass to clean and now a huge shower with a simple change.

Pros Of Toilets In The Shower

  • SPACE SPACE SPACE often it is in the shower to allow for more space in your bathroom
  • Additionally will allow you to add a freestanding bath or bigger vanity
  • Allows you to have more room to move with the screen being a fixed panel and no need to have a door
  • Cleaning – We all hate cleaning so having on fewer pieces of glass to clean is a godsend for us, time-poor people
  • No swinging door allows you to have less risk of damage or the need to be careful when using the set up you literally just walk in and walk out.
  • Fewer screens will also save you so much money instead of having to pay for a custom-made screen that you would usually be installed into this type of bathroom setup.

Cons

  • The toilet will get wet all the time when you use this type of shower set up which can be very annoying to clients.
  • The toilet roll holder will need to be placed outside of the wet area or the paper was taken off before you shower
  • It is not for everyone with some people not even liking the idea of a toilet in a bathroom let alone a shower area
  • Really the biggest con is making people comfortable with the idea of having a toilet in the shower area which is the hardest optical when getting someone to do this type of renovation.
  • It is not the easiest renovation to actually make so you really want a tradesperson who is really qualified in this type of renovation or you will end up with a room that becomes flooded in about 30 seconds.

Small bathroom renovations are what I specialize in. So when you think the idea of a toilet in a shower area is crazy what I will say to you is that sometimes having only one toilet in a house with 4 kids and two adults might seem crazy but the idea of having that second toilet regardless of how you get it into that space can be a life changer.

What I love about the concept below is when you install a toilet in the shower area but it’s a wall-hung set-up you can do the wall-to-wall method which is an awesome way to get shelving in the shower that stays away from those rusted shelving that also gets knocked into by every clumsy member of the family

Clients are moving away from the idea of a bath and looking to get a toilet where the bath was for the big family or that savvy investor knowing that a second toilet will add value to the home.

Beyond those extreme cases if you can have a layout that has the toilet in the shower area that still flows and functions I would suggest it but know it is not for everyone.

I have had mixed results with everyone we have done. So can you have a toilet in the shower area..? Yes but if you actually want one there is another question only you can answer.

Let me finish by saying this, whenever you renovate a bathroom renovate for whatever your immediate need is. It’s your money, it’s your day-to-day life so the key to all of this is to renovate the way you want something to be.

Furthermore, if it’s really not going to work then fair enough but beyond extreme circumstances take my advice on board.

Looking for more information on wet rooms CLICK THE LINK BELOW we cover the more traditional wet room which is the bath and shower in the same area without having been a shower over the bath.

This method of Australian wet rooms is yes a modern concept but allows you to have a big shower like above but also a big bath to allow you the best of both worlds.
