New on the scene in the last few years is the fluted shower screen. Often called a vast majority of names such as reeded shower screens, fluted shower screens or those shower screens with lines up and down them they are all sort of right.

What would usually be called frosted shower screens or satin shower screens has moved more into the trend of privacy with a little bit of luxury.

What is rippled shower glass called?
Rippled shower glass is also know as fluted glass or reeded glass which is made by pressing semi-molten glass between metal rollers instead of smoothing out the glass to create a unique design and feeling of ripples as you run your hand around them.

Below are the pros and cons of Fluted Shower Screens
Fluted glass shower screens are incredible in person just let me say and the below images do not do justice to how these fluted screens look.

Pros of Fluted Shower Screen
- Gives you great privacy when taking a shower
- Creates a eye-catching feature that is a real conversation piece
- Easier to clean due to the vertical pattern hiding the watermarks
- Modern bathroom fitting that goes with modern bathrooms
- Great for covering a niche so you can keep it messy!

Cons Of Reeded Shower Screens
- Can look green
- All your bathroom choices have to go with the finish to make it work
- May be more costly due to limited availability and most likely custom-made set-up
- Fluted/Reeded Shower screens can be overwhelming

So there you have the pros and cons of fluted shower screens. I do love them in the right setting but that is often very hard to get right.
Reeded shower screens are not for everyone and may not take off but what I love is if you get the finish of the colour right.

Fluted shower screens are becoming more and more popular for a variety of reasons as mentioned above.
The key for me and why fluted shower screens are so popular in Perth and Australia is that everyone wants a bit of luxury but also we are looking for something that is a little practice when it comes to cleaning.

Yes fluted glass can cost more and yes reeded shower screens can be impactful for the wrong reasons but trust me in the right bathroom and maybe in your bathroom the person reading this I can guarantee you won’t regret it.

Frosted shower screens like this can really benefit that time-poor cleaner like myself.
I love when you can get the frosted/fluted/reeded glass finishes in more of a white finish looks a lot more classy.
The more crystal white fluted glass becomes more of a subtle feature instead of overpowering like in the image below.

You do not see all the marks or soap scum from the usual shower activities you do so not only are these reeded shower screens great for these reasons but they also look amazing.

I personally love Fluted Showers Screens and you should too. With more and more availability I can see reeded shower screens becoming the most popular shower screen finish by far.
The only real decision you will need to make about the fluted/reeded showers is if you want the frosting white or more green for a finish.
Finally do not take the decision lightly. These frosted shower screen finishes are costly and will be the biggest feature in your bathroom literally so take your time. Look at all the pictures you can and go feel that bad boy in person if you can.

THE BIGGEST PET PEEVE I HAVE WITH SOME OF THEM
Often with reeded glass shower screens you will get a green tinge or a heavy green look to them.
You can avoid this though by looking into reducing the amount of iron oxide in the glass which is a process that costs more but will make the glass looker whiter.

ADDED BONUS
So here is a little bonus for you. The curved fluted shower screen is the most popular of the types

These fluted screens have a curved or rounded edge on the fixed panel of glass to make the screen a little less aggressive
Curved screens are the most popular so paired with the reeded finish you get the best of both worlds.

Curves are sexy for your bathroom so do not be afraid to give them a go on your screen.
Omg thank you so much for all this information there is so little information out there on Reeded glass shower screens so I really appreciate it.
My question is will fluted glass shower screens date or will they be around for awhile
Hi Harry, thanks for the read. Fluted glass is popular because it leans towards easy-to-clean bathrooms. Easy-to-clean bathrooms are the most popular and consistent trend I have ever come across. My advice is if you don’t mind the look of fluted or reeded glass screens then go for it but if you are on the fence avoid! It’s not something you warm to once it’s in.
Harry my boy they will be around for many years to come
