Underfloor Heating For Bathrooms

Underfloor heating for bathrooms is not what I would say the most popular bathroom heating we do in Australia but it’s on the rise.

Most of it is due to living in a hot climate and the second is there seem to be easier and more cost-effective options when it comes to bathroom heating.

We will cover below the important aspects of installing underfloor heating in a bathroom

  • Pros and Cons of underfloor bathroom heating
  • Is underfloor heating in the bathroom worth it?
  • Can you have underfloor heating in the shower?

Having the main heat source at the lowest point in the room is very efficient as heat rises, giving you the pleasure of stepping onto a lovely warm floor after a bath or shower.

Creating a heated bathroom floor requires a radiant source of heat to be installed underneath the tiles.

This can either be via an electronic heating element or hydronic heating.

Hydronic (pipes located underneath the flooring that have warm water pumping through them and radiating heat out) and electric (electrical wires instead of water).

Can you have underfloor heating in the shower?

We often get asked if can we have underfloor heating in our shower area and the answer is yes it can be installed.

Now, this depends on the way the shower floor is tiled like the rest of the bathroom floor.

Quality underfloor heating systems are suitable for installation in the shower area.

Any bathroom floor heating system that has a IP67 (or greater) rating makes it safe for installation in the shower area.

With wet rooms or shower areas installing underfloor heating needs to be installed by a knowledgeable professional or it’s dangerous so be careful.
