The debate rages on and the decision is real. It’s one of the most heated decisions involved in the bathroom selection process believe it or not. Couples will often disagree on which they prefer for various reasons but as always I’m here to show you both sides. This debate is, of course, what shower outlet are we having, will it be fixed, moveable, or both for the showerhead.

We break down the four types of shower outlets you will be asked to make decisions on during your bathroom renovation journey. The first we will cover is the original shower outlet which is the fixed shower head.
Fixed Shower Head
We break down the four types of shower outlets you will be asked to make decisions on during your bathroom renovation journey. The first we will cover is the original shower outlet which is the fixed shower head.

Pros of a fixed showerhead
- Can be often fitted to existing shower outlets saving you time and money
- Come with a range of larger heads allowing for more coverage
- Don’t have to adjust shower height with one size fits most
- The Showerhead can be angled to suit taller people if needed
- Are sleek-looking and can’t be grabbed by the kids pulling or yanking

Cons of a fixed showerhead
- Do not have the same cleaning functions as sliding rails
- Will need a raised showerhead if the current outlet Is not high enough
- Some find it too close to the wall to stand under depending on the make
- Can lack pressure due to the nature of the rain effect
Fixed Shower Combo
Below is an example of a fixed shower combo with no rail. Why you would have something like this is if you love a cleaner-looking bathoom finish without the hassle of a long rail.

Sliding Rail
Sliding rails are shower outlets that have a pole that allows your shower outlet to go up and down and be tightened at fixed points all over the rail. The second option for this rail is the combo like the above we will cover that section below.

Pros of sliding rail
- The shower head often has multiple settings allowing for high and low pressures
- Height is adjustable allowing for really tall and really short people
- The shower head can be removed and used for spot cleaning of you
- The best feature Is for cleaning the shower using its high-pressure option to get into the grout
Cons Of Sliding rail
- Often requires the current shower outlet to be moved to a more reasonable location
- The more moving parts the higher the chance of items becoming faulty over time
- Visually can look quite cluttered depending on the design you pick
- Can be annoying to everyday use if they have to be constantly moving the head height for different people

Sliding Shower Combo
Probably the most popular of all shower outlets we do the sliding shower combo is the outlet we do the most out of all the shower heads above as it is not only adaptable but also amazing for owners who are different heights and would love to clean a bathroom or not get their hair wet.

Regardless of what you pick understand that showerheads will be the most used part of your bathroom. The shower combos are great for the people who can’t decide but can often be quite pricey starting at around the $400 mark for decent quality.

Best of Both Worlds
The best of both worlds is the separate shower outlets. One is a mixer or mixer diverter set up of a fixed shower head and the other is a handheld device that has no rail or is not near each other.

The reason this is the best of both worlds for your bathroom renovation is that is both practical and looks cleaner compared to the sliding shower combo or dual shower combo. The downside of this though is the cost as it’s most likely twice as expensive in comparison to a normal shower combo and three times more expensive as a normal shower outlet.
