What I Loved

What I loved about Rachel and Ryans bathrooms is that it hits all the modern aspects of what renovating a bathroom in 2023 brings. It covers it all we are talking about, arched shower screens, curved mirrors, wall vanity lighting, real timber vanities and brushed nickel tapware which are all the 2023 Bathroom Renovation Trends and what you should be looking at installing into your bathroom.

What I Hated It

Two things, personally I am not a fan of the double showers. I think in general they are the biggest waste of money and unnecessary as rarely they are used at the exact same time. The other is the bath feels way too small for the space as it should have been 1800mm or 2000mm in width to make better use of the space instead of needing to fill both sides.

What You Should Use For Your 2023 Bathroom Renovation

Everything! This bathroom renovation by Rachel and Ryan is what you should do in a renovation in terms of design. I love the tones, I love the curves I love the way it’s both practical and functional at the same time which is not always the case. If you could take one thing from this space for your 2023 bathroom renovation it would be the curved shower screens.

Let’s talk about that floor. Beautiful encaustic pattern floors always look stunning in the right setting, what I personally love about pattern floors is that they hide so much dirt and are easier to keep clean. Lastly, that beautifully curved vanity is all about what’s on trend at the moment, curves are in and this beauty of a bathroom vanity looks so much different compared to the curved wood finishes that have been around the last few years.

What I Hated

Frameless wall-to-wall screens are not my most loved bathroom item. I find them overpriced and always leak between the joins. Most people who end up with a frameless shower screen that has a door are unaware of how much it will leak so it always comes as a bit of shock. What I really don’t like is often it needs a brace like this random shelf that goes wall to wall across it and as many people mentioned it’s way too low in the space.

What You Should Use For Your 2023 Bathroom Renovation

For your 2023 bathroom renovation, you should be using VJ Panels. The best thing about VJ Panels are they amazing for groutless bathroom walls. We all hate grout so the idea of having a bathroom without is the most appealing option to all new renovators. CLICK HERE for more information on using VJ Panels in a wet area.

What I Loved

I’m a huge fan of the half wall. Half walls are amazing for placement around rounded edge baths that are more narrow in nature. This bathroom uses a combination of tiling and wall panels around the entire room which does finish it off nicely. The darker grey tones also compliment each other well with a bathroom that is super modern without being too dark which we will cover later for another bathroom.

What I Hated

I am not sure why they didn’t make the shower an open shower. This bathroom is huge and I feel like the layout is wrong. I get it from a visual point of view that it lines us up with the bath and window but the sides of this bathroom have been used poorly with the shower ideally needing to be located at the end of the room to get the most out of it. Also, I am not big on the square herringbone finish which I have only used to avoid cuts in a bathroom this would have been better just with a normal herringbone.

What You Should Use For Your 2023 Bathroom Renovation

This for me is the correct way to use a floor-standing bath spout. Often clients use them in spaces that do not require one and the cost plus effort is not worth it. The second part of this bathroom renovation you should be using for your 2023 bathroom renovation is the wall lights. Use those bad boys whenever you can, especially when your walls are this height and you want some decent face lighting.

What I Loved

I love the toning of the walls for this bathroom. It really looks like Venetian plastering I had to look three times to tell it was tiled. It’s perfect for that natural grey which is so hard to pull off. Lastly, the 4 draw vanities are a perfect use of vanity space. These Kado Lux vanities from Reece are as beautiful in person as you see them in the images the best part of a four-draw vanity is it allows you to access every part of your vanity instead of just the front section.

CLAWFOOT BATHS! Let’s be honest no one makes a classic bathroom anymore. All bathrooms are modern and the clawfoot baths are not practical and just look out of place in almost every bathroom renovation I have ever seen. That is not to say they don’t work its just no one has the dedication to build a federation bathroom that warrants having that bath.

Concrete basins. I love concrete basins, especially concrete nation which makes concrete basins that look like concrete but not the plastic look you get with some when they look too perfect. Click Here for a full breakdown of my top 5 concrete basins for your bathroom renovation in Australia.

What I Loved

I love wet rooms. I am the king of wet rooms in Perth and probably created more wet rooms and more mistakes with wet rooms than anyone else. I think a feature wall behind a bath is the standard for making an impact in a space and I do love that feature wall. When creating a wet room you need to understand why this type of layout is for you. The key is a really large bath and a large shower. The size of your vanity is the item that gets the most variance wet room to wet room.

What I Hated

This room is far too dark. The floor and wall tiles in this space are grey or charcoal or brown who knows but it does not work with the space. The clawfoot bath as mentioned above just adds to the over-the-top nature of this bathroom which I would say 9 out of 10 people would not like just from the first look of it. Most renovators are super weary of dark tiles and are looking to brighten up their space.

What You Should Use For Your 2023 Bathroom Renovation

The half wall is the leader of shelving in most 2023 bathroom renovations. I love the half wall for two reasons. Firstly the half wall is practical for placement of items without having to have rusty metal shelves. Secondly, the half wall with glass over the top makes it easier for you to clean glass. We all hate glass so the idea of only having half the glass is a godsend.
