2024 small kitchen renovation trends are going to be all about appreciating good times with yourself. Let’s face it throughout the pandemic, many of us discovered a whole new level of appreciation for cooking in our kitchens.

We were stuck in our homes looking at what could be better and our small kitchens just felt smaller. Now we are able to do something about it let me help you with my kitchen trends for 2023.

I know what you are thinking, you hate your small kitchen and you want to make it physically bigger

The problem though is delays will happen. If 2023 taught us anything it’s that you should aim to reduce the scale of your project or expect delays.

I would love to tell you to knock down walls and take out windows but due to delays on everything from glass to sand simple few weeks’ jobs can turn into monthly jobs just by changing a few windows.

An example of this is glass used to take me a week to get something custom-made now it takes 5 weeks and that’s just glass

The biggest trend for me in 2024 small kitchens will be working within your space and getting the most out of it.

Pops of Color

The Colour is back baby. Colour has made a comeback in the kitchen and will continue that push into 2024.

All of us have spent more time in our kitchens than ever before because of the P word and there’s a natural inclination to make this space feel more personal.”

Not only can a bold, contrasting colour palette weave charm and personality throughout the space.

I expect to see a variety of finishes being added with so much choice out there it can get out of hand quickly.

Natural Light

Most of the time we are all trying to make that small kitchen look bigger so natural light plays a huge role.

Huge windows along the counter space or extra-large skylights over the island will be one of the big kitchen trends in 2024.

The idea is to welcome in nature and let sunlight fall across a range of material grains—wood grain, marble, glazed tile, and the undulations of brush-applied paint.

So if you can get that natural light into your kitchen space.

Pet-Friendly Kitchen Spaces

We are all become pet mad so why not incorporate that fury friend into your smaller kitchen space.

Let’s be honest though storage is always a premium in the kitchen, so you want to aim for those unclaimed areas such as kickers or ends up cupboards where you can cut open a pocket of space.

Open shelves that are low as well can help you put your pet’s bowls and toys somewhere you can reach easily.

White With Timber Kitchens

Honestly adding wood is all about adding warmth to your space.

The power of that warm tone is perhaps most telling when you use it in contrast to colour or material that almost speaks the opposite.

When we talk about white and wood kitchens, that contrast comes into play.

The coldness that white work countertops can bring to small kitchens is certainly challenged when wood comes to town

Helping soften the space and bring that characteristic warmth to it as mentioned is an important trend in 2024 as we all love white kitchens but do not want them to be boring.

Highlight With Brushed Brass

Often brass can be seen in bathrooms the finish looks its best when it’s highlighted in a small kitchen, and pops, even more, when it’s set against all-white or neutral surroundings.

Often the best-brushed brass or brass finish for a kitchen is the mixer as you can either go modern with a nice curved finish or more classic with a unique shape.

Kitchen Splashback Either Small Or Large

Kitchen splashbacks are either small 100mm x 300mm sizes or giant 1200mm x 600mm slabs of the tile no in-between.

The trend for 2024 kitchen splashbacks is I want no grout and the appearance of a slab or smaller subway/vertical stack bond setups that add the warmth of a certain design to your splashback.

This means the 300mm x 600mm tile kitchen splashback that was so popular for years is on the out.

A kitchen backsplash can either make a strong design statement or blend into the background. It can be bright and elaborate, or simple and understated.

Triple Pendant Kitchen Lighting

In 2023 the rise of tripled pendant lights will be on the rise.

They are perfect for framing your kitchen and they have a wide range of looks and styles. 

Whether your goal is to have a clean contemporary feel or a more rustic design, there’s definitely a pendant light for you. 

My favourite feature is how they bring better lighting to the focal point of a sink or bench space.

The reason triple pendant lights work best from a visual point of view it really allow you to space them over the island bench in your small kitchen.

Please Chase Waterfalls

A waterfall edge is no longer only for the ultramodern home. It can work in a contemporary, transitional, coastal, or even the right type of traditional space if you are open to blending elements.

The waterfall countertop allows you to show off that pricey benchtop you installed especially if its finish is dramatic.

What I love about it is that it provides a stunning focal point for a space while increasing its functionality.

Additionally, it takes up NO SPACE! which is what we are going for in a small kitchen renovation.

Waterfall finishes are my favourite trend for small kitchen renovations in 2024 but they are probably my most loved finish of all time.

Undermount Kitchen Sinks Save Space

The best part about undermount kitchen sinks is the countertop extends all the way to the sink even a bit more.

Why is this important, hello have you paid attention? We need every bit of space we can get in a small kitchen renovation.

Getting rid of the rim you get with drop-in sinks is why under-mounted sinks are the main 2024 small kitchen trends.

They are more expensive but really worth both the stunning look and more bench space.

Kitchen Rangehoods That Make A Statement

Range hoods can be boring let’s face it but a statement rangehood can be so much more.

Statement range hoods are going to be big in 2024 especially when it comes to modern and contemporary kitchens.

Lighter shades can be highlighted with metallic or matt accents that can easily marry well with above-mentioned pendant lights.

Marry all of the elements together with your rangehood and it will just finish it off so nicely.

I love renovating but it can be confusing and overwhelming every step of the way.

Always remember it is your space do not let anyone make you have something you do not want.

Just because something is trendy does not mean it’s bad as well it does not mean you need to have it. These act as guides for the person trying to not add something too dated.
