Timber/Wood Lights (Number One Trend For Beachy Kitchens)

Undoubtedly the biggest trend for coastal kitchens is the use of wood pendant lights of all shapes and sizes.

Without a doubt, the wood framing on these feature lightings brings a coastal, modern, boho, natural, and Scandi vibe to them but most importantly they bring a relaxing energy.

Often the loudest piece of the kitchen, these big pendant lights will impact the feeling the most in a room, and with the move to more white-neutral kitchens, homeowners are taking more of a risk on the lights.

So why are they risking it all on these lights well the answer is easy. YOU CAN CHANGE LIGHTING EASILY compared to a benchtop you do not like or a splashback that is overpowering.

Lastly, the big boom in coastal kitchen lighting is down to the availability which is through the roof at the moment.

Difference Between Casual Beach Style and Suave Hamptons Coastal Kitchen Style

Now I know what you are thinking, Jim you are just throwing out the same words in different sentences and that would be incorrect. Let Jimmy help you with the two different styles but pretty similar designs.

Casual beach-style kitchens are more laid back. These styles of kitchen embrace a bit of chaos, they have more color, more timber and wood finishes with a little bit of personality.

As mentioned above the beach style uses more décor wood lighting whereas the Hamptons style is a lot more subtle pendant lighting.

Hampton-style coastal kitchens do have a little bit of blue and wood in them but more minimal detailing.

The coastal Hampton finish is pretty close to a normal Hampton kitchen but with more white timber framing and little bit more organic features.

Either finish is a beachy vibe but one style has a more expensive and classier feel to it.

What type of splashback goes best with a coastal kitchen

As mentioned above you have two types of coastal kitchen finishes so the splashbacks are a little different.

For the LAID BACK HAMPTONS coastal vibe, you have a more solid benchtop with little to no grout lines.

Either completed in a large format tile of 600mm x 600mm or a 1200mm x 600mm the other is the solid stone benchtop.

BEACHY COSTAL kitchen splashbacks are a little more bold with smaller tiles to make it feel more organic or natural.

What stools work for a beachy coastal kitchen?

Hopefully, this question didn’t drive you as mad as me the first time I tried to find a bar or high stools for my downtown kitchen.

I spent hours and days working out what stool would work best with my kitchen island benchtop as I knew it would be a big feature.

Getting the stools right is probably the biggest underrated aspect of the modern coast kitchen and is not talked about enough.

A few tips I can teach you about selecting them are below with the three questions you need to ask yourself before buying.

1. How High Should My Breakfast Stool Be?

Importantly what height will your island benchtop stool be? Depending on your benchtop height you want on average 25cm between the finish of your benchtop and stool.

2. Should My Coast Stool Have A Back or No Back

I am personally a big believer in coastal stools for kitchens being backed as they show off more of the wood or decorative backing often associated with this type of kitchen and are more of a feature.

3. What Colour Should My Beachy Stool Be Neutral? or Something That Says Look At Me

Finally, your last stool decision will be what type of stool am I going to be, a blend-in-the-background boring type of that loud look at me you sexy thing type.

This decision will boil down to what goes with the rest of that kitchen if it’s already too loud then keep it simple.

Final Thoughts

Last but not least I would love to say Coastal Vibey kitchens are back baby.

Coastal kitchens provide you with a casual and breezy beach lifestyle with a neutral palette, natural materials, and classic finishes so for me they and Scandi-style kitchens are the most relaxing.

These simple kitchen design features will encompass the relaxed yet sophisticated Hamptons kitchen style or if you want to go more let’s say alternatively you can add that big splash of color that won’t feel out of place.
