When you have a small bathroom that you are renovating the key for this bathroom is to get the most out of it. This whole website is dedicated to helping you the renovator get the most out of your small bathroom. When it comes to most small bathroom renovations the biggest part can be the is tiling so when I say this tiling is something you should avoid I am mostly saying you should take this advice into consideration.

I love using small tiles, but I only love using them for impact or to soften a space. When you do an entire bathroom in subway tiling especially in a darker grout you create a very intense looking space that can be a nightmare to keep clean.

My big advice is to use only one feature wall of a smaller tile under 300mm x 600mm in and the rest 300mm x 600mm or bigger. Below is the such a simple but amazing example from the Adore Magazine Bathroom which uses handmade 75mm Kitkat Tiles

FINAL TIPS TO HELP YOUR TILING
When small bathrooms you want it to look great without being too dramatic. Take my 3 crucial tiling tips below for tiling a feature tile.

One feature tile and one only – It can be the floor running up the wall or a feature behind the vanity but never try to do both you do not need it.

If you have one feature wall like a subway tiling in white do not grout it in white – it just ends up looking white plus blends and is not a feature

Finally, if you do put the feature on the vanity wall do not just buy a giant mirror to cover it work out if the vanity or the feature tile is the feature often we would do a feature wall and the client would just buy a large mirror.

Always renovate to what you want and need. My big advice for anyone renovating through my 20 years of renovating bathrooms is you spend your money on what you want, never let anyone tell you about the resale value if it’s something you really want but like anything always be practical. For all small bathroom renovations we are limited by space and clients always want to get the most of out it so having a non-busy space will really open it up as a visual.
Small bathroom renovations can be annoying plain and simple. A lot of our bathroom we renovate in Perth have are ensuites or main bathrooms on the smaller side and our clients are often frustrated trying to make this space the best it can be. Less is always more with these rooms plain and simple.
